I have been delivering monthly music sessions at Poneke House and it has been my absolute pleasure to invite and activate memory through music and dance.
One of the major takeaways from having been in self-isolation is how much sitting you can do. That really started to get me thinking about how we could make movement happen here at Ponke House in a way that was both fun and engaging.
It’s been great to activate my chair exercise skills from my Wellington City Council days with Daphne Pilaar and the Johnsonville community crew merging them with my special blend of music to activate memory and call forth people to having an engaging musical experience together.
My favourite moment from this week was teaching the NZ sign language version of Te Aroha and how familiar this song was to participants how readily they were to sing along and share memories together.
I was very touched by this and inspired to see what else we can create at our next gathering.
